Background
The Indianapolis Food, Farm and Family Coalition will conduct a community food security assessment in three distinct Indianapolis neighborhoods. The results of the assessment will help us identify “food deserts” within the city, and will form the basis of future strategies to address these food deserts.
Central Indiana Food, Farm and Family Coalition members will utilize the Community Food Assessment results to initiate more farmers markets, open multiple community gardens, and encourage local grocers to carry local, sustainably produced food.
The Coalition’s goal is to develop and market cooking, gardening and composting classes and will develop intensive partnerships with area churches to help them plot community gardens and serve as
delivery sites for farm-fresh food in low-income areas.
We are in the designing and planning stages currently. We hope to be implementing the Assessment late 2010 - early 2011.
